2022 Chardonnay
In Margaret River, considered one of Australia’s premium chardonnay growing regions, Cape Mentelle creates wines of plush texture, depth and power, yet balanced with a fine frame of acidity. Built around the classic local Gingin clone, this multilayered and complex wine draws upon an additional array of clones and multiple microclimates within our sites, benefitting from cool nights to capture an exquisite vibrancy of fruit.
Ray Jordan Wine
A light and fragrant chardonnay, but one with an intriguing complexity that emerges almost immediately. Light lemon meringue with a little grapefruit and roasted almond break out on the nose. The palate is precise and fine with a delicacy that belies the intensity driving through to a sustained finish. Has a chalky acid and slightly savoury finish. Cellar 7 years.
Wine Pilot
Margaret River specialises in chardonnays with sunny dispositions that beautifully reflect the region’s Mediterranean climate.
Cape Mentelle is no different, and in 2022 we see excellent vintage conditions contributing to an aromatic, warm and textural chardonnay and, yes, one that is very much sunny in disposition.
Lime peel, citrus, white peach, toast and almond meal aromas.
Speaks of summer stone fruits, nougat and lifted citrus, well defined and assisted in length and impact by a chalky, dry acidity.
Almost understated – almost – except for that middle palate richness and texture.
Good tension throughout. Good length. Drink: 2024-2032
