2014 Shiraz
Cape Mentelle Shiraz draws inspiration from the most traditional techniques to highlight our ideal temperate, maritime climate in Margaret River for this classic Australian variety.
Huon Hooke
"Very deep red/purple, youthful colour. The bouquet is smoky, oaky and charcuterie-like, with underlying ripe berries. On the palate, it's intense and firm, lively and lean-ish, with a touch of astringency, and a substantial after-grip. It already drinks well."
The West Australian Wine Guide 2017
When the wines of Cape Mentelle are stacked up it is often easy to ignore how good the shiraz has been over the years. This is another. Plump fruit balanced with a degree of chalky angular tannins. There is a beautiful softness about the palate, with a gravelly and lightly loam character for complexity. Excellent weight in the mouth. Dry and slightly firmish finish.
Campbell Mattinson
"It’s an excellent shiraz. It grows in the glass beautifully. It hasn’t been pushed too hard, it’s not in your face, it almost sneaks up on you, and yet the flavour is all there. It tastes of plums and peppercorns, woodsmoke and black cherries. It’s satiny throughout and yet the curl of tannin is there; it builds in the background. Textbook in all ways."
